My work draws on memories and aspects of daily life to highlight personal, political and social issues. Primarily I work with clay, both stoneware and earthenware. Sculptures are highly coloured with delicate and detailed modelling. Mixed media works often include elements of textiles, metal, glass and found objects, or indeed may be composed of these elements solely. Installation and environmental works explore the use of found objects or materials that cause the viewer to look at and experience the space differently.

Encouraging creativity and the practice of being creative is of paramount importance within my practice when working with others and developing sound, mutually respectful relationships with colleagues and participants. I have had extensive experience as a researcher and project manager on a wide variety of arts initiatives and projects with people of all ages and abilities. In tandem with this work, I am a Lecturer in Art & Design at the University of Ulster, Belfast and since September 2011 Course Director of BDes Hons Art & Design (Foundation Year for Specialist Degree)

As an artist, researcher or project manager, the diversity and challenges that each of these roles present forces me to explore and question the narrative use of imagery and symbolism, and our reading of them.
